Step-by-Step Guide 1:
Navigating Jamovi
Overview
What you will learn here:
On this page, you will learn how to navigate Jamovi. Jamovi is pretty intuitive. There are four main tabs:
Variables Tab - this allows you to view and search your variables in a list view
Data Tab - here you will see your raw data. You can also manipulate your data and add new variables when necessary.
Analyses Tab - in this tab, you will carry out your data analysis
Edit Tab - this tab allows you to add extra information to your results. This will help you keep track of what you have done and why.
You will always work within one of these four tabs. Below is an overview of each of these tabs. Take the time to play around with the Jamovi software and you will soon get the hang of how this program works.

Navigating the tabs & menus
The Menu
Use the Menu to do the following:
Create a Dataset
Open/import existing files
Save your files
Export your files
The Variables Tab
In the Variable tab, you are shown a list view of all the variables in your dataset. This view allows you to easily navigate your variables and do the following:
Search for a variable by scrolling through the list or search for one by name.
Edit the variable names and descriptions by double-clicking in the relevant field.
Edit your variable details by double-clicking on the data symbol - the screen will appear for you to add all the necessary information.
Create a new variable by clicking on the + in the bottom right corner.
The Data Tab
In the Data tab, you can explore your raw data, which is organised like Excel in rows and columns. This tab allows you to manipulate your data and get your dataset ready for use. Specifically, this tab allows you to do the following:
Rename and add details to existing variables. Click on the Setup button, or double-click on the variable you want to manage.
Compute and transform variables
Add and/or Delete variables (columns)
Add Filters
Add and/or Delete Rows
You can easily copy and paste data from an Excel file or another Jamovi dataset.
The Analyses Tab
You will spend most of your time in the Analyses Tab. From the top bar, you will select your test. The following six modules are pre-installed:
Exploration
T-Test
ANOVA
Regression
Frequencies
Factor
All other modules need to be installed using the Modules button in your top-right.
Once you have selected the Analyses tab, the screen will be split. On the left, you will see the controls for your test. Here you can drag and drop your variables and select the output you want to display. On the right, you will see your test results.
You can easily minimise the test control panel on your left by clicking on the ->. You can also make the results panel bigger or smaller by dragging the middle bar to the left or right.
Finally you can export or remove the output by right-clicking on the table/graph or heading.
The Edit Tab
In the edit tab, you can add additional information to your results. This can be important if you want someone else to know why, what and how you have been doing something. This is also helpful when you export your results to share them.
The controls are very similar to what you would find in Word (though there are fewer options).
Note, you cannot edit the output.
Update your Preferences
You can also edit some of your preferences. Select the three dots on the right of the tasks and the relevant menu will appear. Now you can change some of the settings such as:
How many numbers you want after the full stop.
If you want to learn R, you can also display the R syntax.
Your graph colour scheme
Your default missing value.
Note: Adding your default missing value here, save you time later, as you won't need to add it in manually.
